  • Alcohol

  • Prescription medications, without Medical Director's approval
  • Opened/unsealed over-the-counter medications, vitamins or supplements
  • Aerosol cans (except shaving cream & hair mousse)
  • Liquids (mouthwash, hairspray, etc.) containing any alcohol other than cetyl
  • Inhalants (glue, paints, etc.)
  • Hair dye/coloring, perms, chemical hair straightener, etc.
  • Perfumes/colognes/aftershaves/body spray
  • Douches
  • Nail polish or remover
  • Bleach
  • Spray starch
  • Stain removers
  • Shoe polish
  • Loose tobacco, rolling papers, pipes, etc.
  • Cigars (other than those that are cigarette size and shape)
  • Chewing tobacco
  • Caffeine gum, supplements, energy drinks, etc.
  • Chocolate
  • Food or drink brought in from outside (except individually wrapped bite-sized non-chocolate candy)

Wells Center reserves the right to change the list at any time and prohibit other items as appropriate. Patients should compare the above listing with the list displayed at the Nurses' Desk to determine any changes/modifications.

Upon admission, patients will be required to relinquish any prohibited items brought into the agency to be sent home or held until the patient is discharged. An infraction of the requirement prohibiting contraband after admission will result in confiscation of contraband and that contraband will be destroyed.


Items Approved for Patients to Possess

  • Non-alcohol mouthwash (sealed and unopened)
  • Individually wrapped bite-sized non-chocolate candy (see list at Nurses' Desk for other approved items)
  • Gum
  • Cough drops
  • Pump hair spray (non-alcohol or cetyl alcohol only)
  • Shampoo, conditioner (may contain alcohol)
  • Lotions (may contain alcohol)
  • Hair mousse (may contain alcohol)
  • Shaving cream (may contain alcohol)
  • Cigarettes (may only be used in outside smoking areas)
  • Electronic cigarettes (must be kept at nurses' desk and not be loaned to others, and may only be used in outside smoking areas)
  • Cigars (the size of cigarettes only-may only be used in outside smoking areas)
  • Disposable lighters
  • Fingernail/toenail clippers
  • Soft emery boards
  • Qtips
  • Blunt tip scissors
  • Dryer sheets
  • Laundry detergent (must have Dr.'s note stating allergy to agency detergent & be kept at nurses' desk)
  • Alarm clock with radio
  • Handheld games
  • Books and magazines
  • Hair/beard trimmers (must be kept at nurses' desk and not be loaned to others)
  • Curling iron
  • Diabetes supplies
  • Personal hygiene/sanitary items
  • Breathing machines/treatments
  • Contact supplies (sealed, unopened-Dr. approval may be necessary for some items)
  • Unopened, sealed over-the-counter medication(s)- (Dr. approval may be necessary for some items)

From Springfield

  • Take I-72/36 west to Jacksonville
  • Exit I-72 at 1st Jacksonville Exit
  • Drive west on Morton Ave.
  • Turn left at Lincoln Ave. (8th stop light)
  • Continue south 1/4 mile to Wells Center
  • Enter at first entrance

From Pittsfield and Quincy

  • Take I-72 east to Jacksonville
  • Travel north to Morton Ave. Exit
  • Continue right onto Morton Ave.
  • Turn right at Lincoln Ave. (6th stop light)
  • Enter at first entrance

From Alton and St. Louis

  • RT 267 north to Jacksonville
  • Continue north to Michigan Ave.
  • Turn left onto Michigan Ave.
  • Turn right at “T” to Morton Ave.
  • Continue north 1/4 mile

From Peoria and Havana

  • Take RT 78 to Jacksonville
  • Continue south on Main Street
